GORHAM — John Nowak lined a double and drove in Brandon Biggane to beak a tie in the top of seventh as Bates edged University of Southern Maine 6-5 in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday.
Henry Jamieson went 3 for 5 and scored a run for the Bobcats (16-12).
Tom Vesosky was 3 for 4, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs for the Huskies (12-17). Oak Hill grad Gavin Rawstrom got the start for USM, allowing four runs in four innings, while striking out five. Lisbon grad Lucas Francis pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.
CMCC 11, GREAT BAY CC 1, 7 INNINGS: Stefan Lesco and Garren Post each had three hits and four RBIs for the Mustangs in the win against the Herons in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Lesco had a two-run homer in the third and had two doubles on the day. Post had three singles. Zach Mann and Craig Burnett each had an RBI in the win. Shane Sullivan struck out 10 in four innings of work. Mt. Abram graduate Trevor Phelps had six strikeouts in two innings of relief. Jeff Meisner also sat a batter down in an inning of relief.
CMCC pitchers produced a combined one-hitter.
Meridius Pendell took the loss for Great Bay but drove in the only run.
ST. JOE’S SWEEPS UMF: The Monks defeated the Beavers 3-1 and 14-6 in Standish.
In Game 1, Jared Wilhelm and Jack Moltenbrey each had two hits and an RBI while Matt Thibault had another hit and an RBI. Wilhelm had a homer and a triple. Padraig Mac Seain picked up the win, allowing one run and striking out two.
Will Harriman took the loss for University of Maine at Farmington, allowing all three runs and striking out two. Sam Peterson had the lone RBI. Oxford Hills grads Hunter LaBossiere and Jonny Pruett each had a pair of hits.
In Game 2, Jackson Stanton had three hits, including a homer, and drove in five. Logan Dee had a double and three RBIs. Terry Morrissey had three hits and two RBIs.
Callister Montembeau had a three-run home run for UMaine-Farmington. Ryan Sargent had three hits, including a double. Nate Coombs had a double, a single and an RBI.
SOFTBALL
UMF, UMPI SPLIT: The Beavers grounded the Owls with a 4-1 win the first game of a doubleheader, but UMPI bounced back with a lopsided 11-3 victory in Game 2 in Presque Isle.
Christa Allen smacked a three-run homer in Game 1 and Carleigh Schievink got the win on the mound for UMaine-Farmington (3-19).
The Owls rebounded and hammered out 12 hits and erupted with a total of nine runs in the opening two innings. Dalaney Afinson had three hits and drove in three runs for UMaine-Presque Isle. Hailey Saylor got the win on the mound.
Allen hit another three-run homer for the Beavers in Game 2.
BATES TAKES TWO FROM THOMAS: The Bobcats took Game 1 of the nonconference doubleheader 7-1 and Game 2 by a 3-1 score in Lewiston.
Madison Hollis had three hits, including a home run, for Bates. She had four RBIs in the Game 1 win. Kennedy Jones had two singles. Katherine Merisotis, Rachel Liazos and Ella Maher had an RBI each.
Megan Oberholzer had two hits for Thomas and Kaylee Fonseca drove in the only run.
Hollis threw a complete game in the win, striking out 11. Kelsey Currier took the loss.
Hollis had two hits in Game 2 and Morgan Kennedy had the only RBI in the win.
Katy McIntyre drove in Thomas’s only run.
Delaney Rankin went the distance for Bates, striking out three in the victory. Oberholzer also threw a complete game for Thomas and she struck out four.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
COLBY 17, BATES 7: Leading 5-2 after one quarter, the Mules (11-4, 7-3 NESCAC) added an 8-1 second period as they pulled away from the Bobcats (5-10, 1-9) at Waterville.
Ally Franz and Julia Jardina led Colby with three goals each, with Kailey O’Neill adding a pair.
Maddy Roelofs and Caroline Taggart scored two goals each for Bates.
MEN’S LACROSSE
COLBY 15, BATES 11: Jack Goller scored five goals for the Mules (4-10, 1-9 NESCAC) as they grabbed an 8-6 edge at halftime and downed the Bobcats (1-12, 0-10) in a season finale at Lewiston.
Nick Hassan and Ryan Darby each had three goals for Colby.
Alex Horowitz led Bates with three goals, with Henry Bruininks and Wil Masterson each chipping in with a pair.
MICHAUD SETS RECORD: Another former Oak Hill standout has set a St. Joseph’s record.
Senior Xavier Michaud set a new program mark for single-season goals when he scored his 50th goal of the season in the first quarter of the Monks’ 18-4 win over Regis in the regular season finale Tuesday. Michaud finished the game with four goals, giving him 52 in 17 games.
Last week, Oak Hill graduate Tiger Hopkins, a freshman, set the St. Joseph’s record for points in a season when he reached 77. Hopkins added one goal and three assists Tuesday, and now has 84 points (39 goals, 45 assists) on the season.
Gray-New Gloucester grad Scott Lynch scored two goals for the Monks on Tuesday. St. Joe’s has earned the No. 4 seed in the GNAC tournament.
