BETHEL — Lisbon scored all of its runs by the fifth inning, then survived the Telstar’s seven-run sixth to win 9-7 in an MVC softball season opener on Wednesday.
Freshman catcher Sophia Bowie collected three hits for Lisbon, which scored two runs apiece in the first, second and third innings, then added three more in the fifth. Senior Emily Libby hit a pair of doubles and junior Elle Burkhardt also had two hits. Freshman Amelia Harvey didn’t allow a hit while pitching the first two innings, then fellow freshman Ava Kottman pitched the final five frames.
Makenzie Eliot had two hits, including a double, for Telstar, and drove in two runs. Payton Berry and Sarah Chase also recorded RBIs during the Rebels’ big inning. Sophomore Maylyn Hastings pitched a complete game.
LAKE REGION 7, POLAND 1: Melissa Mayo recorded 10 strikeouts, and Kylie Myers and Lyla Levesque each had two hits for the Lakers in their season-opening win over the Knights (2-1) at Poland.
Emma Martin hit an RBI single for Poland.
ST. DOM’S 25, MT. VIEW 7: Sophia Franciose drove in six runs on three hits as the Saints hammered out 24 hits and rolled over Mt. View in Thorndike.
The Saints (2-1) piled up 14 runs in the second inning. Mt. View’s (0-5) Maggie Natale, Emily Richards and Kelsea Doughty each drove in a run in their five-run uprising in the third inning.
Maddie Andrews pitched four innings and gave up six hits to get the win for St. Dom’s.
SKOWHEGAN 17, MT. BLUE 1 (5 INNINGS): The River Hawks exploded for 13 runs in the second inning en route to a mercy-rule win over the Cougars in Skowhegan.
Callaway LePage smacked two doubles and had three RBIs for Skowhegan (4-0), and Natalie Gilman had a single and a double. Lillian Noyes earned the win for the River Hawks in the circle.
Alyssa Simineau took the loss for Mt. Blue, which falls to 0-3.
OXFORD HILLS 10, EDWARD LITTLE 0: Gigi DeVivo, Miah Gallan, Tristen Dereburger, Kaydence Morse and Maddy Miller each had two hits as the Vikings (2-0) overpowered the Red Eddies (1-2) in Norway.
Oxford Hills hammered out 16 hits, and winning pitcher Kyeria Morse went the distance in the six-inning game, striking out 10 batters. She also had three hits. Attie Campbell also had three hits.
LEAVITT 4, MORSE 2: The Hornets (2-0) plated three runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Shipbuilders (2-1) in Bath.
Neither team scored the first four and a half innings. Morse took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Leavitt answered in the sixth, but the Shipbuilders went up again, 2-1, in the sixth.
In the seventh, Leavitt’s Sam Withee singled in the tying run, then Emily Poland and Logan Arsenault batted in the go-ahead and insurance runs, respectively.
Arsenault led the Hornets with two hits.
Leavitt pitchers Abby Albert, Hailey Turcotte and Hailey Cyr combined to hold Morse to two hits. Cyr, a freshman, pitched the final 2 1/3 innings to earn the win, her second of the season.
DIRIGO 34, WISCASSET/BOOTHBAY 0: Grace Robbins pitched a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and helped her own cause with two doubles as the Cougars (1-0) opened their season with a five-inning win over Wiscasset/Boothbay in Wiscasset.
Dirigo plated 11 runs in the top of the first and 13 more in the second.
Jayce Brophy, Nikole Turnbull and Kallie Errington joined Robbins as repeat hitters, with Brophy also collecting a double to go along with a home run. Emma MacFarlane also homered and one of Turnbull’s hits was a triple. The Cougars produced 17 hits in total while striking out just two times.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 11, GREELY 7: Ervena Belcer, Mackenzie Gervais, Emily Carroll and Maisie Lerette all had multiple hits to help the Patriots (1-3) outslug the Rangers (1-3) in Cumberland.
Maia Wright homered for Greely, and Katherine Wallace and Avery Butler each collected three hits.
MT. ABRAM 9, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 4: Abi Wilcox led the way with four hits as the Roadrunners (1-1) won their first game of the season, beating the Falcons (0-3) in Rumford.
Mt. Abram finished with 11 hits. Wilcox scored twice and drove in a run. Savannah Davis and Ari Dereszynski also scored two runs each.
Roadrunners pitcher Adrianna Stinchfield held Mountain Valley to three hits while striking out 12 batters.
Madisyn McLean homered for the Falcons in the fourth inning, and Mallorie Bourret doubled.
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 2, MADISON 1: The Phoenix (1-0) survived a pitchers’ duel that got interesting at the end to hand the Bulldogs (3-1) their first loss of the season in Madison.
Spruce Mountain scored both of its runs in the top of the sixth inning before Madison drew within one in the bottom of the seventh.
Jaydn Pingree scattered three hits over seven innings while striking out 10 for the Phoenix. Leah Burgess had two of Spruce’s seven hits.
Kylee Burgess struck out five batters while pitching a complete game for Madison. Mackenzie Robbins had two hits in the loss.
BRUNSWICK 9, LEWISTON 7: A three-run sixth inning boosted the Dragons (2-0) to a road win over the Blue Devils (0-4) in Lewiston.
Lewiston plated six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-6 lead, but Brunswick regained the lead in the top of the sixth with a trio of runs highlighted by Sophia Morin’s home run.
Morin finished with a team-high three hits. She also drove in three runs. Gabby Swain and Jordyn Cummings added two hits apiece for the Dragons.
Pitcher Ellie Sullivan drove in two runs. In the circle, she struck out five and didn’t issue any walks in seven innings to earn the win.
Aubrey Peer homered and had three hits and two RBIs for the Blue Devils. Isabella Enos and Aubrey Wood each doubled and drove in two runs, and Ava Marquis added a double.
Lewiston pitcher Ava Dionne also went the distance, striking out five and walking three.
BASEBALL
MT. ABRAM 14, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 3: The Roadrunners had a big six-run fifth inning and overpowered the Falcons in Rumford.
Tucker Plouffe, Cam Grey, Ash Rollins, Kaiden Longley and Killian Pillsbury drove in runs in the key fifth inning.
Rilan Farnum, Jakob Lapointe, Julien Byam and Kaden Paaso each had one hit for Mountain Valley.
SKOWHEGAN 3, MT. BLUE 1: A three-run third inning proved to be all the runs the River Hawks needed to top the Cougars in Skowhegan.
Noah McMahon (single, double) and Tyler Annis (two singles) had two hits each for Skowhegan (2-1). Jackson Quinn went the distance as the winning pitcher.
Aiden Wilkins took the loss for Mt. Blue (1-2).
LISBON 20, TELSTAR 1: The Greyhounds (1-0) scored half their runs during a big third inning to down the host Rebels (0-1) in an MVC season opener in Bethel.
Cody Osmond stood out for Lisbon on the mound and offensively on the base paths. He scattered three hits over five innings while striking out 13 batters. At the plate, he had multiple hits and stole five bases.
Keegean Morrissette collected three of the Greyhounds’ 12 hits. Brayden Decato, Jimmy Fitzsimmons and Jacoby Tuplin all multiple hits and knocked in runs during the 10-run third inning.
Will Doyle pitched into the third for Telstar and had one of the Rebels’ three hits. Connor Deprey and Brody Walker had the others, while Al Ballou closed out the five-inning contest on the mound.
WINTHROP 11, HALL-DALE 1 (6 INNINGS): Trent Collin pitched a one-hitter as the Ramblers took down the Bulldogs in Farmingdale.
Braden Branagan (three singles), Andrew Fay (three singles) and Brayden Stubbert (two singles, double) had three hits apiece for Winthrop (1-1).
Hall-Dale, which went up 1-0 in the first before Winthrop scored 11 unanswered runs, falls to 0-2 with the loss.
LEAVITT 3, MORSE 2: A three-run inning allowed the Hornets to escape with a victory over the Shipbuilders in Turner.
Colton Taylor got the win on the mound, scattering four four hits and striking out six. Noah Carpenter got the save. Luke Gladu, Carpener and Will Keach had two hits.
Shipbuilders pitcher Gavin Baillageron did a good job keeping the Hornets off balance for five innings.
GREELY 10, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Marky Axelsen went 2 for 2 with a double and a grand slam as the Rangers (2-2) beat the Patriots (0-4) in five innings at Cumberland.
Sam Almy went the distance on the mound for Greely, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out six.
LAKE REGION 5, POLAND 3: Winning pitcher Brock Gibbons struck out eight batters to lead the Lakers (1-1) past the Knights (2-1) in Poland.
Aiden MacFawn and Parker Hackett, who both had two hits apiece, led the Knights on offense.
Drew Sayler took the loss on the mound for Poland.
GIRLS LACROSSE
MT. BLUE 11, GARDINER/HALL-DALE 8: The Cougars (3-0) remained unbeaten with a home win over the Tigers (1-2) in Farmington.
Chloe Roberts led Mt. Blue’s offensive attack with five goals. Talia Kidder and Maya Kellett each scored twice, while Emma Dunn contributed a goal and three assists and Alissa Butterfield a goal and two assists. Callahan Towle, Amelia Tierney and Lily Huntley each assisted on a goal.
Cougars goalie Maddie Keller made six saves.
