COLLEGE BASEBALL
UMF SWEEPS UMPI: Oxford Hills graduate Hunter LaBossiere tied a school record and the Beavers (7-27, 4-8 NAC) scored clutch runs in both games of their doubleheader sweep of the Owls (2-31, 1-13) in Presque Isle.
UMaine-Farmington overcame a 2-1 deficit with three runs in the seventh, and final, inning to win 4-2.
The second game was tied 3-3 heading into the eighth inning.
UMF’s Callister Montembeau hit a solo homer in the eighth to break the tie. It was the junior’s second home run of the season and of the week. UMaine-Farmington added an insurance run in the ninth when Cal Tibbitts walked with the bases loaded to score Nate Coombs, and Beavers reliever Chris Albert finished off the Owls in the ninth to lock down a 5-3 win.
Albert pitched the final two innings to earn a save.
UMF’s Ryan Sargent opened the second game’s scoring with a two-run homer run in the first inning.
Sargent also drove in two runs in the opener, including the go-ahead run in the seventh when he singled home Sam Peterson. Jameson Bloch’s single earlier in the frame brought in Lucas Tuttle for the tying run, and Labossiere scored on Coombs’ sacrifice fly to cap the scoring.
LaBossiere scored twice in the opener. He singled in both games, giving him 127 in his career, equaling the program record set by Tom Grady. The Beavers finish the regular season with a pair of doubleheaders against Husson (15-16, 10-2): Saturday in Farmington and Sunday in Bangor. LaBossiere already owns the school record for career doubles, with 27.
BOWDOIN 7, BATES 4: The Bobcats’ (16-13, 1-9 NESCAC) rallied in the ninth inning, but three runs weren’t enough to catch the Polar Bears (14-12, 3-7) in Lewiston.
Tyler Attal drilled a two-out, three-run home run to left-center in the bottom of the ninth to cut Bates’ deficit to 7-4. But Henry Jamieson followed with a strikeout to end the game.
Attal finished with two hits and four RBIs. Jack Brennan and John Nowak also had a pair of hits for the Bobcats.
Bowdoin’s Kevin Murray led all batters with three hits, which included a double.
