100 Years Ago: 1923
The golf coat in hand knit garments is the most popular sweater being worn this season. It has taken the place of the favored Tuxedo of last season.
The golf coat is made with back and sleeves and front edging of plain yarn. The front is knit in contrasting color to the back and sleeves. The sleeves and back are in plain stitch, and the front in fancy stitch.
50 Years Ago: 1973
A new store, P.J’s Fashions, is scheduled to open about May 11 at the Northwood Park Shopping Center. The new store will occupy the space being vacated by the Bette Crockett Card and Party Shop. John Whitmore, formerly of Auburn and now a resident of South Paris, is the owner of the new store.
25 Years Ago: 1998
Lewiston Mayor Kaileigh Tara dances with friend Bill Brooks during the Renaissance Ball Friday evening at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston. The event, organized by the mayor, was a celebration of the spirit of change and renewal in the city. About 125 people attended the dance. Tara, dancing barefoot much of the night, called the event a success.
