Cutting the budget to the Lewiston Public Library is a bad idea for all involved.
According to a recent article on the subject of the budget cuts, it was stated that the library makes up 2% of the city budget. Cutting back on the hours the library is open would save the equivalent of pennies on the budget, while simultaneously reducing a community resource that provides a much larger net benefit to both Lewiston and surrounding cities, such as Auburn.
Social value aside, these cuts will ultimately cost Lewiston more in the long run, as these services will still be needed and other institutions will have to make up the deficit.
