BETHEL — BAAM at The Gem is hosting two live music performances in May. At 1 p.m. Sunday, May 7, Celtic trio Kalos will perform. At 7 p.m. Saturday, May 13, duo Kat & Brad will perform.

Kalos

Kalos is made up of three innovative interpreters and composers of Celtic roots music: Eric McDonald (guitar, mandolin, lead vocals), Ryan McKasson (fiddle, viola, vocals), and Jeremiah McLane (accordion, piano, vocals). All three are longstanding touring artists, who, as part of their development, learned from masters of traditional music (Ryan with Alasdair Fraser, Eric with John McGann, Jeremiah with Jimmy Keane).

Their individual artistry springs from these strong traditional roots. As a trio they move beyond this foundation, creating music that is compelling enough to transcend boundaries and appeal to music lovers of all stripes

A critic for the UK’s Folkwords wrote: “There’s a certain spontaneity at work as the three musicians alternately contest and duel, combine and coalesce to bring their talents together.”

Kat & Brad

Drawing from 1950s and ’60s pop, American Songbook standards, and much more, vibrant duo Kat & Brad channel and fuse these influences through two voices, a guitar and a violin to bring you a mixture of original songs and dusted-off covers from the past.

Brad Bensko performs vocals and guitar, and Kathleen Parks (of Twisted Pine) performs vocals and five-stringed fiddle. Life partners as well as musical partners, Kat & Brad bring special chemistry and energy to their live performances. Their shows have received high praise from audiences all over New England.
