RUMFORD — Winthrop survived a challenge from Mountain Valley to earn a 4-3 road win in an MVC baseball contest Saturday.
Jake New gave the Falcons (0-5) the first lead of the game when he singled on a full count and drove in a run in the bottom of the second inning, but the Ramblers (4-1) answered in the top of third with three runs, all on a bases-loaded double by Tyler Shumway.
Shumway went 3 for 4 and drove in all four of Winthrop’s runs. Brayden Stubbert had a pair of hits and scored one run, while Jaxon August scored twice and Matt Beck hit a triple.
