NEWRY — A hiker died Saturday on the Lollapalooza Trail in Newry, according to the Maine Warden Service, which responded to the trail after learning a person had collapsed.
Todd Soucy, 51, of Exeter, New Hampshire, was hiking the Jordan Mountain trail with a friend, Andrea McKean, said Mark Latti, spokesman for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife.
The two were about 2½ hours into the hike, at 4:40 p.m., when Soucy collapsed. McKean called 911 and performed CPR, but Soucy died before rescue workers could bring him off the mountain, officials said.
Soucy was examined by a representative of the Office of State Medical Examiner at Chandler Funeral Home in Bethel, Latti said.
The Newry Fire Department, Bethel Fire Department and Sunday River Safety Patrol also responded to the rescue effort.
