The cast has been announced for the upcoming Community Little Theatre production of the Steve Martin comedy “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” which will open June 15.
The time is 1904 in a bar in Paris named the “Lapin Agile” (Nimble Rabbit). Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso meet and begin to discuss art, the universe, and everything in between. A unique collection of characters punctuates this discussion with wit, humor, and wry perspectives – until a mysterious visitor arrives with visions of the future. For Steve Martin fans, this show has everything – high-brow and low-brow humor, accents, philosophy, and some great laughs.
In the titular role of Picasso is Brian Pfohl. Sparring with him as Einstein is Tony Roy. Jason Pelletier will portray Freddy the bar owner. In the role of Germaine, Freddy’s girlfriend and quintessential French woman, is Sarah Duncan. CLT newcomer Chris Kuhlthau will play Gaston, the Lapin Agile regular who provides a bit of age and wisdom to the show. In the role of Suzanne, the young woman infatuated by Picasso, Sophie Messina will play the first weekend and Bryce Smith will play the second weekend. Roger Philippon will play Sagot, the art critic and Picasso enthusiast, and Dan Kane will portray the zany inventor Schmendiman. Finally, the mysterious (or not so mysterious!) Visitor will be played by Gerry Therrien.
Director John Blanchette’s crew includes assistant director/stage manager Danielle Eaton and producer Matt Conklin. Jennifer Fox is the costumer and hair styles will be created by Sara LaBrecque. Matt Conklin heads up light design and operation and sound design and operation will be in the able hands of his brother Josh Conklin. Kate Sicotte is managing properties and set décor and Blanchette is leading the set design and construction. Photos for the show will be taken by DNA Photography.
