CHESTERVILLE — The Recreation Committee is holding a fundraiser for the new playground 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Dave Archer Chesterville Town Office, 409 Dutch Gap Road.
The fundraiser will take place outside rain or shine.
“We will be having a live band called the “No Left Turn” band, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, a cookout and bake sale,” committee member Katlin Hilton said in a recent email to the Livermore Falls Advertiser. “There will be kids games as well.
“We had some unexpected costs come up and we need to raise money to install the playground.”
The idea for a new playground started last summer when 770 residents signed a petition stating one was wanted.
The playground has a budget of $28,770. In September voters approved appropriating up to $25,000 from the town’s allotment of the federal American Rescue Plan Act. At Town Meeting March 13, voters approved a bit more, appropriating $3,770 from taxation, recreation carry forward of $23,627 and $1,373 from ARPA funds.
Several local businesses and individuals have donated equipment, materials or discounts for the playground.
The equipment has been ordered and will be here the first week in June, Hilton noted.
The playground has been designed for youth five to 12 years of age, is hoped to be a flourishing place for kids and community members, Hilton said in March.
