GREENWOOD — If all the articles on this year’s town meeting warrant are passed, Greenwood’s budget will increase 5.5% in 2023/24. The budget in 22/23 was: $3,274,212.00; the proposed budget in the warrant is $3,246,077.00

The estimated property tax per $1,000 if all the warrants pass is estimated at $16., increased from $15.85. Sparks said according to the assessor the number may be even lower.

The proposed budget comes under the property tax levy limit by $649. The limit is $1,490,004. Article 4 asks voters to increase the limit if necessary. Town Manager Kim Sparks said in the last 15 years she has seen the limit increased “maybe twice.”

Article 5 asks voters to approve a $43,600 increase to the Total Administration budget.

Article 6 and Article 8 should easily pass as those numbers have not increased. Article 6 is Codes/Planning/Assessing for $43,800 and Article 8, General Service is $14,132.

The Fire Department is asking for $34,600 more than last year (article 13). The money is needed for wages, equipment, supplies, repair and fuel.

The transfer station is seeking an additional $9,925 from last year.

Greenwood will pay, $194,623 to the state for county taxes.

MSAD-44 will collect $1,265,847 for the schools.

Select board member Arnold Jordan is stepping down after 15 years in his position. Article 2 is to elect a new select board member by written ballot. The full title of the position is Selectman, Assessor and Overseer of the Poor.

Town Meeting will be held Sat. May 20 at 9 a.m. at Jackson-Silver Post 68 American Legion on Gore Road beside town office.
