HIRAM — A pair of three-run innings helped the St. Dominic Academy softball team avenge an early season loss by defeating Sacopee Valley 6-5 on Monday.
Maddie Andrews struck out 10 to earn the win for the Saints (6-7). Ellia Dick doubled, singled and drove in two runs, and Sophia Franciose added two hits, and Kassidy Cote scored two runs. Andrews and Cote also had two hits.
St. Dom’s scored three in the first inning an three in the third. In the teams’ first meeting on April 28 in Auburn, the Hawks defeated the Saints 31-4.
Lindsay Fox, Julia Tuthill, Keira Greene, Emma Boulanger, Jillian Phillips and Lea Dole each had a single in Monday’s game for the Hawks (7-6).
BUCKFIELD 11, WINTHROP 0: Carmen Crockett tossed a five-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts, and the Bucks (11-2) used a seven-run fourth inning to put away the Ramblers (7-6) in Winthrop.
Crockett was one of five Buckfield batters with multiple hits, recording a pair of doubles to go along with two stolen bases. Abigail Prokey and Brittany Carrier each had three, while Crockett, Emma Stevens-Belanger and Chloee Bennett added two hits apiece. Crockett, Stevens-Belanger and Prokey’s each tallied two RBIs. Prokey also stole four bases.
Lauryn Wood struck out six batters in five innings for Winthrop.
FRYEBURG 13, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Abby Ontengco struck out seven while scattering seven hits in a seven-inning shutout as the Wildcats (6-8) blanked the Patriots (2-12) in Gray.
Ontengco doubled, drove in a run and scored two for Fryeburg, and Carlin Galligan had three hits. Ana Maillett, Emma Keaten and Keyshaw Winters each had two hits, while Emily Chaine and Keaten had doubles.
Audrey Getchell had two hits for Gray-New Gloucester, including a double.
MESSALONSKEE 4, EDWARD LITTLE 1: The Red Eddies (7-7) struck first, but the Eagles (9-3) tallied three runs in the fourth and one in the sixth to win the KVAC matchup in Oakland.
Morgan Wills allowed just two hits and struck out 14 batters for Messalonskee. She shut down the Red Eddies after the second inning. Elise MacDonald had three hits for the Eagles, including a double, and Maddie Wilson had a double and a single.
Izzy Jalbert had a double for Edward Little and Alexis Kelsea had the other hit. The Red Eddies scored their run when Leah Thibodeau drove home courtesy runner Nellie Feeney with a sacrifice bunt.
MOUNTAIN VALLEY 13, LISBON 10: The Falcons (3-11) fended off the Greyhounds (3-9) in a high-scoring matchup in Rumford.
Brooke Brown’s two-run triple in the fifth was the feather in the Falcons’ cap. Brown had three RBIs in the game, matching Madisyn McLean for the team high. Maisy Chase drove in two runs, and she also pitched six innings of relief, striking out eight.
Elle Burkhardt, Maria Levesque, Ava Kottman and Alivia Field each had two hits for Lisbon, who took a 6-1 lead in the top of the second thanks to a six-run frame. The Greyhounds scored four more in the top of the fifth to draw within 11-10. Levesque drove in three runs, and Burkhardt, Amelia Harvey and Marina Davis drove in two apiece.
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 18, CARRABEC 2: Freshman Rylee Turner hit a home run and drove in four runs in the Phoenix’s (11-3) five-inning win over the Cobras (1-12) in North Anson.
Turner homered during Spruce Mountains’ six-run first inning. The Phoenix added three runs in the second and nine in the third.
Turner and Emma Towers each had three hits to lead Spruce Mountain. Jaydn Pingree, Leah Burgess, Santika Hodgkin and Tyoaka Hodgkin had two hits apiece.
TELSTAR 21, WISCASSET/BOOTHBAY 0: Vivienne Charette threw a no-hitter and the Rebels (4-8) used an 11-run first inning to put away Wiscasset/Boothbay (0-12) in five innings in Bethel.
Charette had two of Telstar’s seven hits at the plate, and in the circle she worked around four walks and struck out one batter.
Karen Marshall and Bella Bennett drove in three runs, and Olivia Seames, Morgan Zetts, Maylyn Hastings, Cadence Campbell and Charette each collected two RBIs. Zetts’ double was the lone extra-base hit for the Rebels.
YORK 4, POLAND 1: Emily Estes had three hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Wildcats (13-1) beat the Knights (11-2) at York.
McKayla Kortes and Carlie Welch had two hits apiece for York, with Bella Santini adding a double and an RBI.
Maddy Raymond tossed a four-hitter, striking out 12.
OAK HILL 5, DIRIGO 4: The Raiders (8-6) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally past the Cougars (6-6) and win in walk-off fashion in Wales.
Carlee Austin homered and doubled for Oak Hill, driving in two runs from the leadoff spot, and Ava Austin also had a pair of hits and drove in another run. No. 9 hitter Eliana Smith drove in a run as well. Kelsey Young scattered five hits and four walks while striking out eight in seven innings for the win.
Kallie Errington and Lana Waite doubled for Dirigo, and Waite finished with two hits, one RBI and one run. Nikole Turnbull drove in two runs. The Cougars scored three runs in the top of the first, then were shut out until adding another run in the seventh. Grace Robbins gave up six hits and one walk in six-plus innings of work.
MONMOUTH ACADEMY 18, MADISON 2: Bella Lyons drove in four runs and the Mustangs (13-1) put the Bulldogs (9-5) away with a 10-run sixth inning in Madison.
Maddie Herr added a bases-loaded triple to Monmouth’s 18-hit, 18-run performance. The Mustangs held an 8-2 lead heading into the top of the sixth. Shanna Parsons led the offensive attack with four hits — a double and three singles — and Herr, Brooklyn Federico and Rileigh Chase each finished with three hits.
Federico had another strong performance in the circle, striking out 10 in five innings. She and Parsons combined to hold the Bulldogs to four hits.
Makenzie Robbins had a triple for Madison.
BASEBALL
FRYEBURG 15, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 7: Michael Malia and Edgar Real each homered, and the Raiders (9-5) pulled away to beat the Patriots (2-12) in Gray.
Fryeburg took a 9-0 lead with two runs in the top of the fourth before Gray-New Gloucester scored all of its runs in the bottom half of the inning. Zach Pelletier’s grand slam highlighted the rally. The Raiders then added two insurance runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh.
Drew Reynolds had two of the Patriots’ seven hits, and Nick Geer and Andrew Keddy each doubled.
Real and Alex Allain both had three hits for the Raiders, with Allain, Bryan Martinez Chavez and Caleb Micklon all hitting doubles.
LISBON 9, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 7: The Greyhounds (9-3) took the lead with a three-run fourth inning and held on to defeat the pesky Falcons (3-9) in Rumford.
Lisbon shortstop Levi Tibbetts led all hitters with three hits. He also drove in three runs. Cody Osmond and Jacoby Tuplin each added a double and a single, and Jack Ramich had a pair of singles. Tibbetts, Osmond and Jimmy Fitzsimmons scored two runs apiece.
Osmond pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win for the Greyhounds, who have won seven straight games. He struck out four batters. Fitzsimmons started and fanned six. Brayden Decato got the final out to notch a save.
Mountain Valley starter Tyler Warren struck out eight in four innings. Seneca Jones led the Falcons with two hits, and Jake New drove in two runs.
MT. ABRAM 12, HALL-DALE 2: Bear Rollins paced the Roadrunners’ (9-3) lineup with two doubles and three RBIs as the hosts finished off the Bulldogs (4-9) in six innings in Salem Township.
Bryce Wilcox had a double among his three hits, and Kaden Pillsbury singled, doubled and drove in two runs. Killian Pillsbury added a pair of RBIs. Logan Dube pitched the first five innings and Wilcox manned the mound in the sixth, with the pair of hurlers combining to limit Hall-Dale to three hits.
Ben Nathan had a double and an RBI for the Bulldogs, and Cody Dupont drove in the other run.
MT. BLUE 3, HAMPDEN 2: Nolan Leso limited the damage of 10 hits by the Broncos (9-4) as the Cougars (7-6) eked out a win in Farmington.
Leso struck out four batters in six innings for the win. Hayden Dippner punched out two more in a hitless seventh for the save. Zak Koban paced the Mt. Blue lineup with two hits, Dippner doubled, and Brody Walsh, Jayden Meader and Hayden Durrell all drove in runs.
Hampden pitcher Collin Peckham struck out four and gave up eight hits and one earned run in six innings. He also had three hits, while Kaysen Wildman had two. Andrew Cote and Bodie Bishop droe in the Broncos’ runs.
OAK HILL 4, DIRIGO 3: The Raiders (11-2) were declared the winners of the MVC game in Wales by forfeit when, in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Cougars (8-4) put in a relief pitcher who didn’t have enough days rest.
According to the Maine Principals’ Association’s baseball bulletin, a pitcher who throws 96-110 pitches must rest for four days before pitching again. The Dirigo reliever threw 100 pitches on Thursday. Oak Hill coach Chad Stowell appealed, and after a check of the Cougars’ pitch counts on GameChanger, the Raiders were declared the winner with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Stowell said Dirigo’s mistake was unintentional.
Oak Hill took a 4-3 in the fifth. Ethan Vattaso pitched three innings and Trent Drouin (four strikeouts) pitched two for the Raiders. Vattaso also doubled for one of Oak Hills four hits.
Dirigo starter Charlie Houghton held the Raiders to four hits and struck out four in 4 2/3 innings.
Oak Hill has won 10 of its past 11 games.
OXFORD HILLS 16, GARDINER 0: Brady Truman pitched four innings of one-hit ball and recorded one of the Vikings’ (10-2) seven extra-base hits in a five-inning victory over the Tigers (5-8) in Paris.
Truman struck out five and walked three. Kaden Delano closed out the win with two strikeouts in the fifth.
Eli Soehren homered and tripled, Kolby Brown tripled and doubled, Truman and Cole Pulkkinen each doubled and Connor Fitts doubled. Soehren also singled and Pulkkinen matched Brown with two hits.
Cam Madore had the lone hit for Gardiner.
SACOPEE VALLEY 6, ST. DOMINIC 5: Keegan Thibodeau lined a shot to right-center field, driving in Brady Metcalf to break a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the seventh as the Hawks (12-0) walked off the Saints (9-4) at Hiram.
Caleb Vacchiano blasted a two-run homer to pull Sacopee Valley even at 5 in the seventh.
Metcalf, Carson Black and Vacchiano had two hits apiece for the Hawks.
Tim Ouellette hit a three-run homer for St. Dom’s.
YORK 7, POLAND 3: The Wildcats (7-6) scored all their runs in the first three innings to take down the Knights (5-8) in York.
Benjamin Brown, Jack Jellison and Jack Joyce each doubled and Jacob Fogg hit a pair of singles for York, which put together three-run innings in the first and third. Brown picked up the win, scattering five hits.
Sam Paladino and Aiden MacFawn both had two hits for Poland. Drew Sayler gave up nine hits in six innings.
EDWARD LITTLE 3, MESSALONSKEE 1: Drew Smith pitched a gem and Brady Vincent homered to lead the Red Eddies (7-6) to a road win over the Eagles (8-4) in Oakland.
Smith struck out 11 and held Messalonskee to one run and four hits over five innings. Campbell Cassidy earned the save by fanning four in the final two innings.
Vincent hit a solo home run in the third and drove in Eli St. Laurent on a single in the fifth. TJ Kramarz scored Edward Little’s first run in the second inning, doubling and later going home on an infield single by Caleb Albert. Kramarz and Vincent led the Red Eddies with two hits apiece.
Aiden Rodgers scored Messalonskee’s lone run in the fourth inning. He also pitched the first six innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out three.
