LISBON — Trent Holman pitched a nine-inning complete game and Dirigo outlasted Lisbon 2-1 in extra innings in a key late-season Mountain Valley Conference baseball matchup Monday.
Holman scattered seven hits and three walks and the only run he allowed was an unearned one in the bottom of the fourth. He struck out eight and threw 66 of his 97 pitches for strikes.
The Cougars (10-5) tied the game in the top of the fifth.
Travis Wright had three hits out of the No. 9 spot for Dirigo, and Austin Adams added two. Trenton Hutchinson had a hit, a run and collected the lone RBI for the Cougars, and Holman scored the other run.
Cody Osmond lasted 7 1/3 innings for the Greyhounds (10-5) before departing after his pitch count hit 110. He also allowed seven hits, while striking out nine batters and not walking any. The run he allowed in the fifth was unearned. Jimmy Fitzsimmons came on in relief and allowed just one hit and one walk in 1 2/3 innings, striking out three. He gave up the winning run, which was also unearned.
Levi Tibbets had two hits for the Greyhounds, and Keeghan Morrissette recorded the lone RBI, driving in Jacoby Tuplin.
EDWARD LITTLE 2, MT. ARARAT 0: Drew Smith pitched a two-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts as the Red Eddies (9-6) downed the Eagles (7-7-1) in Topsham.
Smith scored the winning run in the top of the second on an RBI single from Gage Ducharme. Campbell Cassidy singled in Ducharme for Edward Little’s second run in the top of the sixth. Ducharme and Kade Masselli each had two hits.
Shea Farrell and Parker Lohr had the hits for Mt. Ararat. Stan Spooner pitched all seven innings, allowing 10 hits and one walk while striking out one batter.
OXFORD HILLS 15, LEWISTON 5: Kolby Brown and Cameron Pulkkinen each tallied three hits and three RBIs as the Vikings (12-3) finished off the Blue Devils (3-12) in six innings in Paris.
Oxford Hills put together three-run frames in the third and fourth after Lewiston took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second. The Vikings then put up five runs in the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth brought out the 10-run rule.
Pulkkinen and Carter Holbrook had doubles for Oxford Hills. Kaden Delano earned the win, allowing five hits while striking out four in five innings. Brady Truman pitched the sixth.
Joseph Dube had two hits and two RBIs out of the No. 9 spot for Lewiston. Ethan Blue also drove in two runs and Michael Caron drove in the other.
SOFTBALL
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 11, MT. ABRAM 4: The Phoenix (12-4) scored nine runs across the first three innings to take control early in an MVC win over the Roadrunners (5-11) in Jay.
Santika Hodgkin had two hits, including a triple in the four-run third, and three RBIs for Spruce Mountain. Leah Burgess also had two hits, including an run-scoring single in the two-run second when the Phoenix went ahead 5-1.
Rylee Turner earned the win on the back of six innings pitched, allowing four runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. Jaydn Pingree closed out the win by pitching a scoreless seventh.
Adrianna Stinchfield pitched all six innings for Mt. Abram, with seven hits allowed and seven strikeouts.
