NORWAY — It was a cool and cloudy day of fishing for the 58 youth who attended the 8th Annual Norway Family Fishing Festival on Saturday, June 3, at Butters Park. This family educational day was created to teach age 15 and under how to fish or improve their fishing skills.
Although only a few fish were caught this year, fishing is an activity that teaches patience and persistence as the winning brook trout was turned in with five minutes to spare. New to this year’s event were two biggest trout categories, the biggest rainbow trout was caught by Alec Nagy and the biggest brook trout was caught by Tucker Sylvain.
More than 130 people attended this year’s event.
The festival included fish cleaning and grilling by Norway Paris Fish & Game Association and Lake Thompson Fish and Game Club; healthy Snacks from Bright Bodies; fish themed face painting and temporary tattoos done by Angle Diaz; water from Norway Downtown; free gelato coupons from
Dolce Amici; watermelon from SnapEd and popcorn from the Norway Fireman’s Relief Association.
The Stuart B Cummings Lifetime Fishing Award that was won by Grayson Wade, age 4, of Norway and is in remembrance of Stuart. Stuart was an avid lifetime fisherman; taught how to fish by his grandfather. He believed all kids should know how to fish. In memory of Stuart, Joan Cummings donated the funds to allow this award to be given.
Donators to this year’s event include Joan Cummings, DIFW, Norway-Paris Fish & Game Association, Lake Thompson Fish and Game Club, The Lake Store, Norway Parks & Rec, Norway Downtown Promotions Committee, Dolce Amici, Café Nomad, Snap Ed, and Bright Bodies. Norway Fireman’s Relief Association, helped with event safety.
