An itinerant band of Oklahoma gypsies have been camping for the last two weeks on Stetson Road, Lewiston. They broke camp Thursday morning at the suggestion of the police, and by noon were on the road to “somewhere else in Maine.” And with the departure of the perennial tourists went the opportunity to have your fortune told with all the mystic passes and incantations of an oriental phrenologist.
50 Years Ago: 1973
St. Mary’s General Hospital on Wednesday evening made service awards to 73 Candy Stripers who serve the hospital as volunteers.
25 Years Ago: 1998
A flood watch was in effect Saturday night in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Oxford, Franklin, Somerset, southern Piscataquis, York, Kennebec, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, Waldo and Knox counties in Maine and some southern New Hampshire counties due to heavy rains and surface runoff, according to the National Weather Service in Gray.
