BETHEL — Select Board Chairman Lloyd Sweetser and member Lori Swain were defeated in their bids for reelection Tuesday.

Michele Cole unseated Sweetser, 195-147, while Sarah Southam defeated Swain, 194-53.

Running unopposed for two three-year assessor seats were Robert Blake, who received 269 votes, and Michele Cole, who had 250. Also running unopposed for a two-year assessor seat was Ronald Savage, who received 239 votes.

A total of 377 people voted.

School budget

The Maine School Administrative District 44 budget of $14.11 million passed in all four towns: Bethel 269-102; Greenwood 27-14; Newry 37-21; and Woodstock 26-8. The combined total was 359-145.

The budget is about $1.33 million more than this fiscal year’s $12.78 million.

Destiny Hughes of Greenwood ran unopposed for a school board seat and received 350 votes from all four towns.

Bryan Kendall was a write-in candidate from Woodstock. He garnered 369 votes.

Stephanie Cayer of Bethel received 69 write-in votes to David Jones’ 58 votes.

They will join incumbents Stephane Herbeck of Bethel, who received 418 votes, and David Bartlett of Newry, who received 264 votes. Herbeck ran unopposed, while Bartlett faced opponent Matt Mallin, who got 108 votes.
