100 Years Ago: 1923

In its leading editorial Friday the Portland Press Herald praises in high terms “the wisdom of Mayor Brann” of Lewiston in keeping Lewiston’s tax rate at 29 mills. “Mayor Brann is a wise official,” the editorial begins.

50 Years Ago: 1973

A burned snack led to a call tor Auburn firefighters Thursday night. Shortly before 10 o’clock, the crews of Engines Two and Aerial Two were sent to 317 Main St., to check out a report of trouble with a stove. Firefighters discovered the problem was some cheese sandwiches which had been left in the oven too long.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Some students take the SAT time after time, hoping to improve their score on college boards. But for 15-year-old Nicholas Danforth, there’s no room left  for improvement. Last month he scored a perfect 1,600 on the test.
