According to some of the Lewiston merchants, the cold weather has continued so long that the sales of coats for children have been considerably hampered. Many parents have preferred to keep their children in their heavier garments until real warm weather broke; and now it looks as if the little tots would step out of their winter wear into summer frocks. There has been only a slight demand for capes in the children’s lines: this has come from people able to buy more than one wrap for their little folks. But the summer trade is coming along fine, with emphasis on the party dresses, with the dress and bloomers matching, with fancy trimming for $1.98.

50 Years Ago: 1973

Competing in the Miss Maine Pageant on Wednesday at Portland will be Miss Carlene Quimby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl L. Quimby of 451 Turner St., Auburn. She will represent the University of Maine at Farmington where she has completed her freshman year.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Wardens have charged a Friendship man with possession of 50 undersized striped bass and 51 fish over the legal limit. “Fifty-one fish – nothing comes even close to this,” Marine Patrol Officer Jay Carroll said Monday.
