SEATTLE — Julio Rodríguez hit a two-run double, rookie Bryce Miller pitched seven crisp innings and the Seattle Mariners overcame a dominant performance by Lance Lynn, beating the Chicago White Sox 5-1 on Sunday.
Lynn matched a franchise record with 16 strikeouts in seven-plus innings, but Miller was terrific and Seattle got clutch hits from Rodríguez and Jarred Kelenic in the victory.
Rodríguez’s third-inning double put the Mariners up 2-0. The 22-year-old Rodríguez, the 2022 AL Rookie of the Year, got his 15th steal of the season in the sixth, joining Fernando Tatis Jr. as the only players in major league history to hit 40 homers and steal 40 bases in their first 200 games.
Lynn (4-7) departed after Kolten Wong opened the eighth with a bunt single. After two-out walks by Ty France and Teoscar Hernández loaded the bases, Kelenic made it 5-1 with a triple off Reynaldo López.
Miller (5-3) allowed one run and four hits in his second straight win. He struck out six and walked none.
RANGERS 11, BLUE JAYS 7: Corey Seager and Ezequiel Duran each had four hits, and Texas rallied for a win at home.
Seager drove in three runs and Duran scored three times as Texas erased a 6-0 deficit in the rubber game of the weekend series. Leody Taveras added three hits and three RBI, including a tiebreaking single in the fifth inning and a two-run homer in the seventh.
ANGELS 5, ROYALS 2: Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout hit back-to-back home runs to help Los Angeles win at Kansas City.
It’s the sixth time this season, and 28th overall, that Ohtani and Trout have homered in the same game. The Angels are 6-0 this season and 20-8 overall when both players go deep.
TIGERS 6, TWINS 4: Spencer Torkelson and Kerry Carpenter hit back-to-back homers during Detroit’s five-run fifth inning, and the Tigers won at Minneapolis.
Carpenter and Andy Ibáñez each had three hits for the Tigers, who won three of four in the series after beginning June by losing 11 of 12.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
BRAVES 14, ROCKIES 6: Eddie Rosario homered twice and drove in six runs, and Atlanta beat visiting Colorado for its sixth consecutive victory.
Michael Harris II went 5 for 5 and scored three times for Atlanta, which erased a 5-0 deficit. Harris and Ozzie Albies each hit a three-run drive, helping the Braves increasing their major league-leading total to 126 homers.
GIANTS 7, DODGERS 3: San Francisco completed a rare rivalry series sweep on the road with a win at Los Angeles.
It was the sixth time San Francisco swept Los Angeles in a three-game series at Dodger Stadium since both teams moved to California in 1958, and the first since Aug. 20-22, 2012.
LaMonte Wade Jr. and Luis Matos each had two RBI, Logan Webb (6-6) allowed two runs in seven innings, and the Giants won their seventh straight game.
Tony Gonsolin (4-2) gave up a career-high seven runs in 5 2/3 innings for the Dodgers.
BREWERS 5, PIRATES 2: Milwaukee scored four runs in the eighth inning to hand visiting Pittsburgh its sixth consecutive loss.
William Contreras tied the game with an RBI single. Raimel Tapia’s sacrifice fly to deep center put Milwaukee ahead, and Luis Urias made it 5-2 with a two-run single.
MARLINS 4, NATIONALS 2: Miami completed a three-game sweep at Washington to move 10 games over .500 for the first time in 12 years.
The Marlins improved to 41-31 and are off to the second-best start in franchise history through 72 games, behind only the 1997 team that was 43-29 and went on to win the World Series.
Lane Thomas homered for Washington, which has lost three in a row and 11 of 13. The Nationals are an NL-worst 27-43.
CARDINALS 8, METS 7: Nolan Arenado hit two homers, including a tiebreaking shot in the ninth inning that lifted St. Louis to a win at New York.
Paul DeJong and Jordan Walker also homered, Paul Goldschmidt had a two-run double, and Brendan Donovan added an RBI single among his three hits for St. Louis.
INTERLEAGUE
PADRES 5, RAYS 4: Manny Machado drove in two runs, Joe Musgrove worked six solid innings and Fernando Tatis Jr. and catcher Austin Nola teamed up to punch out a potential tying run at home plate as San Diego won at home.
The Padres were ahead 5-4 in the top of the eighth inning when Tatis threw a near-strike to Nola at the plate to get Manuel Margot, who was trying to tie the game by scoring from second base on a single to right field by Christian Bethancourt.
ORIOLES 8, CUBS 3: Adam Frazier and Jorge Mateo each hit an RBI single during Baltimore’s three-run sixth inning as Baltimore avoided a series sweep in Chicago.
Anthony Santander homered for Baltimore, and Ramón Urías drove in two runs. Austin Hays had three of the team’s 14 hits.
The Orioles had won six of seven when they arrived in Chicago. But they dropped the first two of the weekend series by a combined score of 13-5.
REDS 9, ASTROS 7: Rookie Elly De La Cruz and Jake Fraley drove in runs in a three-run 10th that lifted visiting Cincinnati to its eighth straight win – its longest streak since winning 10 in a row in July 2012.
Jonathan India, Fraley and Spencer Steer all homered as the Reds rallied from a three-run deficit.
PHILLIES 3, ATHLETICS 2: Kyle Schwarber opened the game with his 20th home run and added an RBI single to lead Philadelphia to a series sweep at Oakland.
The Phillies have won six in a row. The A’s lost their fifth in a row after a six-game winning streak and were swept in a series for the 10th time this year.
GUARDIANS 12, DIAMONDBACKS 3: Josh Naylor had four hits and three RBI, and Cleveland avoided a three-game sweep at Arizona.
NOTES
METS: National League home run leader Pete Alonso returned to the lineup against the St. Louis Cardinals after spending the minimum 10 days on the injured list because of a left wrist bone bruise and sprain.
GIANTS: San Francisco put pitcher Alex Cobb on the injured list because of an oblique strain.
Cobb, who has a 5-2 record with a 3.09 ERA in 14 games this season, strained his left oblique in an 11-4 win against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday. The right-hander was placed on the 15-day IL retroactive to Thursday.
PIRATES: A bus driver was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence while transporting the Pirates from Chicago to Milwaukee for their weekend series with the Brewers.
Illinois State Police said the driver was traveling away from officers seeking to escort the bus on its trip to Milwaukee late Thursday night. Troopers said they observed more erratic driving and eventually stopped the bus on the right shoulder of Interstate 94 in Chicago.
