RAYMOND — One of southern Maine’s beloved annual events, the Strawberry Festival at Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Boyhood Home, returns this year from 6-7:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, at 40 Hawthorne Road.

Featuring a presentation by Town of Raymond Code Enforcement Officer Chris Hanson on preserving the town’s land and shoreline beauty, the festival will raise funds for the ongoing restoration and preservation of the boyhood home of the legendary author of “The Scarlet Letter,” according to a news release from Abel Bates, a member of the Hawthorne Community Association.

The annual festival will kick off with a brief update offered by Bates on the Hawthorne House’s ongoing fundraising efforts and the association’s vision for the future of the historic house. This will be followed by the special presentation by Hanson.

Wrapping up the event will be homemade strawberry shortcake, served with coffee and punch.

Admission cost $15 for adults and $5 for children 8 and younger. Walk-ins also are welcome.
