LEWISTON — One person suffered a minor injury battling a kitchen fire Wednesday morning, but the blaze was mostly knocked down with a fire extinguisher.
Firefighters were called out just after 7 a.m. to a multifamily building at 274 Blake St. where they found one resident suffering from smoke inhalation after fighting the fire. The resident was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and was later released.
Fire crews spent an hour at the scene, mopping up and ejecting smoke from the apartment. Damage was estimated at $20,000. An investigator determined that the fire was started as a result of a cooking mishap on the stove.
The resident was able to douse the stove fire with an ABC-style extinguisher, which uses a dry chemical to battle fires involving common combustibles.
