We received a number of entries from people who recognized the lamppost in the foreground and the Saint Rose of Lima School in Jay, the building in the background with the cross. Many mentioned that the town was once called Chisholm, and the square where the photo was taken is called Chisholm Square, located on Main Street at the war memorial near the town line with Livermore Falls. Many mentioned they worked or had relatives who worked at the paper mill across the street. Our winner, Eva Henry of Jay, was one of those who attended the school. She noted that last Saturday night she happened to park near where the photo was taken and reminisced about her school years there. “I was so surprised to see it in the next day’s newspaper I called right up,” she said when notified she had won. She left a followup message to let us know that the former school is now an incredible food pantry, thrift store and where a lot of blood drives take place. For being picked in a random drawing from all the correct entries, Henry will receive a $25 Hannaford Supermarket gift card.
