LEWISTON — Police are investigating two reports of shots fired near the downtown late Tuesday and early Wednesday, and a 17-year-old local boy has been charged in one case, according to police.
On Tuesday evening, just before 10:30 p.m., police responded to the area of 68 Jefferson St. for a report of gunshots. When they arrived, they located numerous shell casings in the street and a vehicle damaged by gunfire. There was no evidence of anyone being injured and several witnesses provided a description of the shooter, who fled on foot.
On Wednesday morning, just after 3:15 a.m., police were dispatched to the area of 50 Knox St. for a report of numerous shots fired. When they arrived they located numerous shell casings and at least five vehicles damaged by the gunfire. There is no evidence anyone was injured during this shooting.
The teen, who is not named because he is a juvenile, has been charged with reckless conduct with a firearm and violating probation in connection with the Jefferson Street shooting. He was taken to Long Creek Youth Detention in South Portland, according to officials.
Police expect other charges to be filed.
