GREENWOOD — Marie Bartlett, of Greenwood, and her co-directors, Marlene Twitchell of Woodstock and Susan Vacca of Greenwood are accepting fabric, sewing machines, buttons, thread and anything else related to crafting and sewing for their Crafter’s Supply Show on Sept. 9 and 10.

They expect to fill Jackson Silver Post 81 at 595 Gore Road. Proceeds will go to the legion.

Already they have 20 sewing machines ready to sell or donate if they don’t sell.

Bartlett said her house is full of her own fabric and crafting supplies but she is ready to “give it to the universe” and hopes people will look deep into their own sewing closets to de-clutter, de-stash or “Marie Kondo” their space. She is accepting donations.

Bartlett pointed out that it is difficult to buy fabric in this area with Marden’s gone. “That is more incentive for people to come here… these crafters [who will be buying] are on a tight margin. But they can come here.” Fabric will be $6 to $8 with $11 being the highest price per yard.

Most everything will be new. They will sell fabric by the yard, by the bolt and bundled in fat quarters. “Cotton, corduroy, silk, muslin, felt, furry felt, and calico – everything you can think of.”

They will also sell lace, elastic, craft paint, markers, candle-making supplies, silk flowers, scrap book making supplies, candy molds and spools of wire-edged ribbon. In the notions area there will be zippers, snaps, buttons, common pins, embellishments and safety pins. Ceramic planters will be on sale, too.

“Everything will be reasonably priced, because we don’t want to go home with it,” said Bartlett.

Bartlett owned Greenwood Gift Shop for 10 years. She and her mother made “Blue Ribbon Creations,” dolls that had a wooden interior, were fully dressed and wore hats. Some held trays with “blueberry muffins.” She named them after her friends: Nancy,  Susan, and Vicki.

She would sometimes sign them for customers who collected them. Bartlett said she would return from craft shows with over $1,000.

Her “family of  crafters” continue to follow her on Facebook, 262 in all.

Heidi Littlefield, makes dressed mice that are about three inches tall and are tailored to holidays and birthdays. Ruby Coolidge makes purses and bags.  Another crafter makes fairy houses. She hopes they and many more will come to buy supplies.

Crafters who want to sell their wares will make a donation of $15. to the post per day.

Bartlett’s job for Oxford County Recycling, a job she held for many years and loved, was as the education and marketing director. She said she is “back at work,” with this project.

“The excitement over this is over the moon. I’m going nuts trying to get this all together.”

Crafters, she said, are excited not only for the September sale but also for the craft show they will host at the post over the holidays. They have already booked 47 tables for that event.

No rest for the weary or for these “material girls.”
