Megan Bates of the Lewiston Public Works Department and Nicole Welch of Lewiston Recreation organized a community gathering to gauge interest in forming a Friends of Franklin Pasture group, or FOFP, that would help maintain and keep an eye on the athletic fields at Lewiston High School. Vandalism at the complex has prompted discussion on limiting field usage to only school athletic teams, and closing the fields to the public. More than 30 people participated in the Aug. 2 cleanup and showed interest in forming FOFP to keep the fields open to the public. “I am very excited about the turnout,” Welch says.
