Swimming skills are fundamental to who we are as Mainers. This is a state built by people who work on the water, by the water and even in the water at times.
Our ocean, lakes and rivers are such an important part of our culture, identity and economy.
Maine is a state of water people. All our kids should be afforded the opportunity to learn to swim well. Water safety education saves lives. And while the many dedicated volunteers, instructors and coaches that advance swimming in the community have done an extraordinary job over the years, they have done so severely hamstrung for lack of an adequate facility.
That’s why I fully welcome Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque’s advocacy for a new community pool for the city. Like many of the ideas Auburn’s mayor has ushered to fruition over his tenure, this would be another beneficial venture for our community, especially our kids.
Confident and competent swimming is a life skill nobody can take from you ever. Thank you Mayor Levesque. Let’s get this pool built!
