AUBURN — There will be a new traffic route to the new Edward Little High School this school year, according to a news release issued by the city.

Vehicles, buses and pedestrians will get to and from the school via Western Avenue and Auburn Heights, according to the news release. Auburn Heights, which connects Western Avenue and Harris Street, will be renamed Harris Street. Signs will be visible to help direct traffic.

The new school is between the old school and Western Avenue.

Entrances via Harris Street, Fairmount Avenue and Forest Avenue will be closed to the public for about a year, according to Liz Allen, communications and community engagement director. That will allow crews to take down the old school building, which is next to the new one, and complete site work safely. Once work and demolition is complete, Harris Street will run from Court Street to Western Avenue.

Students will attend the new school starting Aug. 30.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled at the new high school Sunday, Aug. 27. It starts at 2 p.m. with guest speakers and public tours.

Paving and construction continues Monday afternoon at the new Edward Little High School, top left, in Auburn. All entrances on the north side of the campus, bottom, which are accessed from Court Street, are closed to all but construction vehicles. The only access to the new school and turf field will be from Western Avenue, which has been closed during construction. The street off Western Avenue, top right, has been changed from Auburn Heights to Harris Street. Once demolition of the old school, next to the new school, and construction of the new school are completed, Harris Street will connect Court Street and Western Avenue. Russ Dillingham/Sun Journal
