TURNER — Selectmen voted unanimously Monday night to accept a bid from Spencer Group Paving of Turner to pave the parking lot at Boofy Quimby Memorial Center at 96 Howes Corner Road.
The offer of $139,150 was the only one received, according to Town Manager Kurt Schaub.
Selectman Kurt Youland abstained from voting because he will be a subcontractor for the company on the project. He said he gave the request for bids Spencer Group and A.W. Bachelder and Sons of Leeds but that company did not submit an offer.
He wanted a provision that requires the company to complete paving on time or face some kind of penalty.
Selectman Kevin Nichols agreed, saying he would like such a provision in writing.
The project must be completed by Sept. 29, according to Schaub.
The town will use money set aside for the project, along with $14,150 from American Rescue Plan Act for the work.
In other business, selectmen approved two marijuana license applications after public hearings at which no one spoke. They are for One for Treetop Crops for a manufacturing operation and 45 North Cannabis Co. for a cultivation operation.
Treetop Crops will operate at 8 Tidswell Road in a suite that was previously used for medical marijuana manufacturing, according to Schaub. The 45 North Cannabis Co. will operate at 2742 Auburn Road, Schaub said.
There have been no issues or concerns with either business, Schaub said.
The town has one adult use storefront license and three medical storefront licenses available, the town manager said. The town ordinance dictates that town officials conduct a lottery-like process for those licenses. Officials will take applications Sept. 15 and hold a drawing Sept. 18, Schaub said.
