I write in rebuttal to Michael Boom’s letter (“‘All praises to the American yahoo’,” Aug. 16).
First, mental illness directed John Lennon’s killer to fire the gun that took his life. Secondly, both vehicle accidents and opioids outpace gun deaths in the United States.
Logically, vehicles and opioids are superior “killing machines.” A quick search can unquestionably confirm these facts.
It is our own liberal government that refuses to guard our borders against drug cartels and, in turn, kills our citizens with deadly drugs.
I believe the U.S. would be better served policing our borders than taking law-abiding citizens’ gun rights away, but who am I to opine — I’m just an “American yahoo.”
