SWEDEN — During Sweden Days, Rose McKenzie, Selectboard administrative assistant, drew the winning ticket from among the thousands sold with the help of Gail Dewildt, secretary of the Sweden Historical Society.
The winner of the 50/50 raffle was Zbigniew “Zibby” Wisniewski from Lovell. Zibby won $577.50 and immediately donated $200 to the Sweden Food Pantry and planned to donate $200 to another local charity. The winner of the quilt made by Gail Bartlett of Sweden was Kathy Scott. Kathy was thrilled with the quilt and planned to put it in a place of honor in her Sweden home.
Linda Bradley, Executive Director of Sweden Food Pantry remarked, “We want to thank everyone who purchased 50/50 Raffle Tickets from Sweden Food Pantry Volunteers and Board Members, and special tickets for the beautiful quilt made by Sweden resident Gail Bartlett.
“After a flurry of last-minute ticket buying at Sweden Days on Saturday morning, August 5, the winning tickets were drawn at 12:30 p.m. outside the historic restored schoolhouse. This is the third year in a row that SFP has held a 50/50 raffle as an important fundraiser for the Pantry in conjunction with the popular town event, Sweden Days. It was the first time tickets for a quilt raffle were also sold.”
The Sweden Food Pantry is open on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 10-1. Serving primarily families from the towns of Sweden, Lovell, Fryeburg, Stow, Stoneham, Waterford, Harrison, and Bridgton, no eligible family is ever turned away.
