100 Years Ago: 1923
Auburn’s fire department is completely motorized. There are few cities of the same size which can say the same thing and point to so many pieces of first class motor apparatus as can Auburn. It has a total of five motor trucks, including two powerful combination pumpers, chemicals, hose and lad- der trucks. So complete is this equipment that excepting a fire in the business or manufacturing sections, the trucks which go out on the first alarm are competent to handle any blaze.
Much has been accomplished during the past year in improving the equipment and building up the efficiency of this department. Few of the people of the city, however, have a real conception of what has been accomplished. This is true, even after the exhibition which the department staged Friday night under the direction of Chief Fogg.
50 Years Ago: 1973
Mrs. Alma C. Ritchie, 19 Loring Ave., Auburn, has been presented with the “President’s Award” by Northeast Bank president Woodbury C. Titcomb to honor her 23 years of service to the bank. She is retiring from her position as manager of the Bookkeeping and Savings Operations Department.
25 Years Ago: 1998
A sibling class will be offered for youngsters who will soon have a newborn in the family. The class will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Family Birthing Unit at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Information will include care and handling of a baby, orientation to the hospital and a short film.
