LEWISTON — Ward 4 resident Matthew Agren is running for Lewiston School Committee representative at-large. He has served multiple terms on the Lewiston Board of Appeals. He has close family members who were teachers and his child recently graduated from Lewiston High School.
Agren said he looks forward to using his experience and knowledge to help improve the quality of education and results in Lewiston public schools. He said he has gained perspective through his work on the Board of Appeals, at Governor’s Restaurant and Bakery and support of little free libraries around the city.
“I have no doubt that among the many challenges and opportunities Lewiston faces, improving our school system must be our top priority,” Agren said.
Agren said he feels that for students from all diverse backgrounds to thrive and prepare for the world beyond education Lewiston public schools must not only raise academic standards but also require accountability from students. To achieve academic success, he believes behavioral expectations should be applied equally to all students regardless of race, religion, gender, economic or social status, and social or political views.
If elected, he said academic excellence and guidance from communication with school staff and community members will be the root of his decision making.
