BABSON 3, BATES 2: The Bobcats (3-1) came up a goal short in the battle of top-15 teams in Babson Park, Massachusetts.
Caroline DiGiovanni scored goals in the first quarter and second quarter for the third-ranked Beavers (5-0).
In the second quarter, 15th-ranked Bates’ Kami Lambert evened the score at 1-1 with her fourth goal of the season, this one off an assist by St. Dominic Academy graduate Anna Cote. Sinead Walsh scored three minutes later to put Babson back on top, then DiGiovanni caged her second goal later in the period.
Mt. Blue grad Molly Harmon set up Anna Lindeis for another Bates goal in the third, then the teams played the rest of the game without adding a goal to their tallies.
Wednesday’s game was the second in a stretch of six straight for the Bobcats against top 15 teams. Next up is No. 7 Williams on Saturday.
USM 9, UMF 0: Former area standouts Abigail Chartier, Emma Samson, Jordan Cummings and Brooke Carson scored in the Huskies’ (4-2) rout of the Beavers (0-4) in Gorham.
Chartier, who played at Lewiston, scored the game’s first two goals. Carson, of Oxford Hills, pushed the lead to 5-0 later in the first half. She also assisted on Chartier’s first goal. Former Spruce Mountain player Hanni Johnson set up Carson’s team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Edward Little graduates Jordan Cummings and Emma Samson each scored in the second half. Dylan Barr also had two goals for the University of Southern Maine.
