AREA — On August 11, Budget Document Technology (BDT), a leading local provider of office technology, donated a brand-new state-of-the-art Konica Minolta C3320i high-resolution multi-function color printer valued at $2,294 to Mission Working Dogs, an Oxford-based nonprofit that trains service dogs, therapy dogs, and facility dogs for veterans and other individuals with disabilities.

Mission Working Dogs was founded by certified dog trainer Christy Gardner, herself a severely wounded veteran who credits a service dog, the aptly named Moxie, with saving her life. Christy started Mission Working Dogs in 2020 with four dogs, and currently, there are 58 dogs in the program, which has so far graduated 17 dogs into service.

The new printer will reduce printing costs for the nonprofit in comparison to their old inkjet printer, and the improved quality and increased functionality will allow them to print dog photos and other marketing materials in-house. “Instead of always having to run over to Office Max!” says Christy.

Ties between the two companies go back to 2019 when Budget Document Technology President Tom Ouellette invited Christy to be a guest speaker at BDT’s 30th-anniversary gathering. At the time, BDT donated $1,500 to Central Maine Adaptive Sports in Auburn, Maine, on Christy’s behalf (and one of BDT’s partners, GreatAmerica Financial Services, made a matching donation), and a friendship was born.

“We are very happy to be able to do what we do best—supply cutting-edge office technology—to support Christy and her team as they pursue their mission of helping veterans and others in need,” says Tom. “Christy is one of those people it’s inspiring to be around. Not to mention, we’re all dog lovers at BDT.”

“I couldn’t be more grateful to Tom and everyone at BDT,” says Christy. “This new printer is going to make a tremendous difference in every aspect of our day-to-day operations.”
