The fall theatre season kicks off with a lively rendition of “Go, Dog. Go!” premiering on the Maddy’s Theatre stage on Friday, Oct. 6, – and running through Sunday, Nov. 5, at The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine in Portland.

Based on the beloved tale by P.D. Eastman, this main-stage production features a talented ensemble of adult actors collaborated closely with director Liz Carlson, embracing a physical approach to bring the enchanting world of dogs, planes, and more to life.

Carlson shared her insights into the show’s central theme, emphasizing how embracing silliness can lead to a deeper connection with oneself. Carlson stated, “This play is a celebration of authenticity and self-love. It encourages everyone to be their true selves, to occupy more space in this world. Once you experience it, you’ll be eager to return for more. Each character unfolds a unique narrative, filled with moments of skating and howling at the moon. It’s a whimsical journey that invites the audience to reflect, laugh, and ultimately cheer. By the end of the performance, you’ll find yourself shouting, ‘Go, Dog. Go!'”

Clowning, physical theatre, and puppetry play pivotal roles in children’s theatre, as they transcend language barriers and communicate stories on a universal level. Stripping away spoken words removes obstacles to understanding narratives, and “Go, Dog. Go!” cleverly utilizes physical comedy and music, staying true to the minimalistic script of the original book, making it a delightful experience for audiences of all ages. As the Children’s Theatre at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine celebrates its Centennial Season, presenting stories that resonate universally remains essential for fostering a sense of belonging.

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine sets the stage for all children to imagine and learn through play. The joyful exploration of childhood is celebrated at the three-story destination in Portland, home to over 15 interactive exhibits and a robust calendar of professional theatrical performances for young audiences. With one hundred years of children’s theatre history and nearly fifty years as a children’s museum, it is recognized as one of the state’s top destinations for fun, interactive play, and learning.
