Harold Bridgham unloads a hay wagon Sept. 27 at the Bridgham Farm in Minot. “This has been the worst hay year I have ever had, by a long shot,” the 10th-generation farmer says, adding the farm produced about half as many bales of hay this year compared to last year. The wet summer prevented farmers from having access to their fields, says Kaleb Bridgham, the 11th-generation farmer in the family. “We produced well, but that does not matter if you can’t get to it,” Kaleb Bridgham says. “It takes three days of sun to make good hay, and we have not had many three-day stretches.” Daryn Slover/Sun Journal

Jonathan LaBonte, transportation systems director for the city of Auburn, stands Sept. 26 near the crosswalk between the YMCA on Turner Street and Great Falls Plaza while leading a public tour to assess the walkability of several neighborhoods. It is one of three walking tours funded by an AARP Foundation grant received by Auburn’s Age-Friendly Community Committee. The crosswalk is too close to an intersection, according to state standards, putting pedestrians at risk. A walk along the same route was planned for Sept. 27. Andree Kehn/Sun Journal
Rebecca Johnson of Lewiston, left, decides on a shirt Sept. 28 at the monthly clothing giveaway at the Center for Wisdom’s Women at 97 Blake St. in Lewiston. Johnson says she has been visiting the center for 15 years. “It’s a really good social connection,” she says. “I have a lot of trauma, so it’s been good to connect with other people who have similar experiences.” Clean, in-season clothing donations are welcome from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Winter clothing, coats and boots are in big demand. Organizers say dressy or business clothing or shoes are not needed. Andree Kehn/Sun Journal
Alexis Planodon fixes her flat tire Sept. 28 on Minot Avenue in Auburn during her commute to work. She says her GPS estimates her ride at 25 minutes, but she finds she can usually make it in less than 15 minutes. Andree Kehn/Sun Journal
