Guitarist and composer Peter Griggs will perform at the Oasis of Music beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday Oct. 11, at Trinity Commons in Lewiston.
Griggs attended the Juilliard School of Music Pre-College Division, Bowdoin College, Wesleyan University and York University (UK). His principal teachers included Louis Ricci (French Horn), Elliot Schwartz & Wilfred Mellers (composition), Marion Brown (jazz improvisation) and Pandit Sharda Sahai (tabla). In 1975, Griggs spent a year traveling throughout Asia, recording and studying with musicians in India, Nepal, Indonesia and Japan – an experience which had a great impact on his musical development. The Courier of Dundee, Scotland, reviewed a recent concert referring to Griggs’ “sizzling guitar playing.”
Attendees can expect a program of music from Brazil, flamenco, and some of Grigg’s many compositions.
The Oasis of Music is a weekly music series of performances of roughly thirty minutes, running from September to May. Admission is free, with donations accepted. The musical genres vary greatly, in largely, but not exclusively, acoustic formats. Trinity Commons is located at 247 Bates St., Lewiston. For more information, call 207-344-3106.
