TELSTAR 24, TRAIP 6: The Rebels (2-4) held the Rangers (1-5) through three quarters and earned an important 8-man Small South victory in Kittery.
“My defensive end, Cruze Kimball, played a great game. He had several sacks and like 12 tackles,” Telstar coach Tim O’Connor said. “The defense was outstanding in the first half.” O’Connor added that Hunter Koskela also was a defensive standout.
The Rebels scored twice in the first quarter to seize a 16-0 advantage. Hunter Winslow scored the first touchdown on an 8-yard run and followed that with a 2-point conversion run. Gavinn Martin added to the lead with a 45-yard scamper. Koskela added the 2-point conversion.
Martin added to the lead in the second quarter, catching a screen pass from Brody Walker and turning it into a 25-yard scoring play. Winslow, again, ran in the 2-point conversion.
Traip, which was celebrating its homecoming, scored on a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
LEAVITT 51, LEWISTON 13: The Hornets (6-0) tore away from the Blue Devils (2-4) in the second quarter and continued their dominant start to the season with a rout in Turner.
Noah Carpenter passed for 227 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 50 yards and scored a pair of TDs on the ground. Will Keach made more big plays, including a 75-yard punt return for a score and a 38-yard touchdown catch.
Carpenter scored on a 5-yard run and threw a 36-yard scoring strike to Aiden Turcotte, and Leavitt took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter.
A 6-yard run by Carpenter began the Hornets’ 37-point second period. He then connected with Mason Henderson for a 36-yard TD, which was followed by Keach’s touchdown catch. The Hornets’ lead was up to 35-0.
Keach returned the punt for a score and then Carpenter tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Keegan Reny to make it 51-0 at halftime.
Lewiston scored a pair of second-half touchdowns, one on a pass by Jeffrey Randall and the other a run by Tafari Corson-James.
FALMOUTH 21, MT. BLUE 12: Indi Backman rushed for two touchdowns, then added a clinching 2-point conversion after a late touchdown by quarterback Tres Walker as Falmouth earned its first win of the season, 21-12 over Mt. Blue in a Class B football game Friday night in Falmouth.
Two weeks after forfeiting a game against Portland because of a shortage of healthy players, the Navigators (1-5) scored their first points since a Week 2 loss to Lawrence when Backman broke free for a 31-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.
Mt. Blue (0-6) tied it a 6-6 on a fake punt, as Stevie Galkowski went 60 yards for the touchdown. Falmouth quickly answered, however, as a 14-yard run by Backman and a conversion kick by Peter Kearns made it 13-6.
That margin stood until early in the fourth quarter, when Mt. Blue’s Dane Cousineau scored on a 15-yard run. Falmouth, though, blocked the conversion kick to maintain a 13-12 lead.
Walker then plunged in from the 1 with 2:08 remaining, and Backman’s conversion rush gave Falmouth a 21-12 lead.
