The University of Maine football team jumped out to a 14-point lead, but Richmond scored 21 points in the second quarter and beat the Black Bears, 42-31, in a Coastal Athletic Association game on Saturday in Richmond, Virginia.
The Black Bears (1-5, 1-3 CAA) took the lead on a 73-yard pass from Derek Robertson to Joe Gillette early in the first quarter. They made it 14-0 when Robertson tossed a lateral to Montigo Moss, who threw a 24-yard scoring pass to Tavion Banks.
After Richmond pulled within seven on a 65-yard pass from Camden Coleman to Brook Heagarty, Cody Williams kicked a 23-yard field goal to stretch Maine’s lead to 17-7.
Coleman then threw three touchdown passes (56 and 13 yards to Nick DeGennaro, and 13 yards to Connor Deveney) to give Richmond a 28-17 lead.
Robertson completed 18 of 25 passes for 315 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Gillette caught eight passes for 169 yards and three touchdowns.
Coleman was 25 of 36 for 365 yards, with six touchdowns and two interceptions.
AMHERST 17, BATES 7: Jack Cox ran for a touchdown and passed for a score as the Mammoths (2-2) beat the Bobcats (0-4) in Lewiston.
Matthew Kelley added a 35-yard field goal for Amherst.
Colton Bosselait was 18 of 35 passing for 184 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Lynskey.
COLBY 20, WESLEYAN 13: Thomas Keeling threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jack Sawyer in overtime, and the Mules (2-2) rallied to beat the Cardinals (3-1) in Waterville.
Christos Tzoumakas kicked a 31-yard field goal with 6:51 left in the fourth quarter for Colby to force overtime. He also had a 42-yard field goal in the second quarter and made both of his point-after attempts.
Keeling completed 19 of 29 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns. Sawyer had seven receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns.
TUFTS 24, BOWDOIN 10: Michael Berluti threw two touchdown passes to Jaden Richardson in the second quarter, leading the Jumbos (3-1) past the Polar Bears (2-2) in Brunswick.
Bowdoin led 10-3 after a 4-yard touchdown run by Robbie Long on the first play of the second quarter, but Berluti connected with Richardson for scoring plays of 24 and 8 yards as Tufts grabbed a 17-10 halftime lead.
(12) OKLAHOMA 34, (3) TEXAS 30: Dillon Gabriel threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Nic Anderson with 15 seconds left, and the Sooners (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) won a battle of unbeatens over the Longhorns (5-1, 2-1) in Dallas in their last Red River rivalry game as Big 12 members before moving to the Southeastern Conference.
With the SEC Commissioner in attendance, but not the Big 12’s, the Sooners and Longhorns played a classic that must have made Greg Sankey thrilled with his new acquisitions.
The pocket was collapsing around Gabriel when he threw the game-winner for the Sooners, to Anderson in the back of the end zone.
(4) OHIO STATE 37, MARYLAND 17: Kyle McCord passed for 320 yards and two touchdowns, Marvin Harrison Jr. had eight catches for 163 yards and a score, and the Buckeyes (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) scored 27 straight points in the second half to beat the Terrapins (5-1, 2-1) in Columbus, Ohio.
(5) FLORIDA STATE 39, VIRGINIA TECH 17: Trey Benson ran for a career-best 200 yards, with touchdown runs of 85 and 62 yards, and the Seminoles (5-0, 3-0 ACC) beat the Hokies (2-4, 1-1) in Tallahassee, Florida.
Benson ran 11 times, averaging 18.2 yards per carry. The junior ran for just 189 yards in the first four games of the season.
(11) ALABAMA 26, TEXAS A&M 20: Jalen Milroe passed for a career-high 321 yards and Jermain Burton caught two touchdown passes as the Crimson Tide (5-1, 3-0 SEC) beat the Aggies (4-2, 2-1) in College Station, Texas, to take control of the SEC West.
Burton had nine catches for 197 yards for the Crimson Tide. Milroe, a Texas native, completed 21 of 33 passes and was sacked six times.
UCLA 25, (13) WASHINGTON STATE 17: Keegan Jones had a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, UCLA’s defense forced four turnovers, and the Bruins (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12) rallied for a victory over the Cougars (4-1, 1-1) in Pasadena, California.
(14) NORTH CAROLINA 40, SYRACUSE 7: Drake Maye threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Tar Heels (5-0, 2-0 ACC) remained undefeated with a win over the Orange (4-2, 0-2) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
(23) LSU 49, (23) MISSOURI 39: Jayden Daniels threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns, ran for 139 yards and another score and, despite playing with banged-up ribs much of the second half, rallied the Tigers (4-2, 3-1 SEC) to a victory over the Tigers (5-1, 1-1) in Columbia, Missouri.
BOSTON COLLEGE 27, ARMY 24: Quarterback Thomas Castellanos ran for his fourth touchdown of the game with 25 seconds left to give the Eagles (3-3) a win over the Black Knights (2-3) in West Point, New York.
