As a downtown Lewiston resident and member of Trinity Church, I witness daily the struggles of the unhoused. The causes are many and needs expanding, while responses are repeatedly stalled by a divided City Council.
It is time for new leadership in Wards 4, 5 and 6.
Billie Jayne Cooke is running for the Ward 5 seat, representing the most affected area downtown. She is a parent and small business owner, living and working in the Tree Street neighborhood, who knows firsthand the impact on our city.
She is committed to a better way for all our citizens, and open to exploring creative and sustainable solutions.
It’s time to stop ignoring and denying our realities, and do better as a community. Billie Jayne would bring a positive attitude of hope and progress toward compassionate, integrated, wholistic solutions.
I hope residents support her candidacy, and vote for her this November.
