Bates College senior defender Molly Griffin anchored a defense that posted back-to-back shutouts over nationally ranked teams over the weekend, and for that she has earned the NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Week.

Griffin is the second Bobcats player to earn the honor, following last week’s winner Anna Cote, a St. Dominic Academy alumnus.

Bates (7-3, 4-2 NESCAC), now ranked No. 10 in the nation, held No. 20 Hamilton to four shots in a 5-0 win Saturday. The Bobcats then held No. 21 Wesleyan to two shots in a 3-0 victory Saturday.

This is the first time since 2017 that Bates has blanked consecutive conference opponents.

Griffin, from Holden, Massachusetts, also scored a goal in the Bobcats’ 4-1 win over the University of New England last Tuesday. She contributed an assist in the Hamilton game.
