BETHEL — Two dementia kits are now available at Bethel Library for patrons to borrow.
Mineral Museums Collection Manager Chrys Snogren, with the support of Executive Director Jessica Siraco, and colleagues Angela Connelly, and Jim Chandler organized the kits after receiving a micro grant with help from Nancy Davis, president of the Age Friendly Community Initiative.
Since the mineral museum does not have a system for loans, Snogren collaborated with Library Director Kelcy Boles, who said they are now available at the library and can be checked out for three-week loans.
The interactive kits are memory and sensory oriented for people who have dementia or memory issues and also for their caretakers.
The puzzles in the kit have levels of difficulty. There are mineral museum themed word searches, and a quartz set. Sachets of lavender and pine to are to stimulate memories. A journal in each kit is for writing feedback and also memories.
Director Will Chapman of the Museums of the Bethel Historical Society donated photographs of the mineral museum, the post office, the Cole Block building, and the Opera House for a game matching new and old photographs. Snogren said and Linda Howe was a collaborator too.
