The Greater Lovell Land Trust is opening a new trail on its largest preserve, the new 1,300 acre Kezar Corridor Lands in Lovell.

The professionally designed trail was built with the work of the GLLT volunteer trail crew, which calls itself “The Groundhogs.”

The community is invited to the grand opening of the trail at Patterson Hill, set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14. A ribbon cutting will be followed by a hike to the top with fall beverages and snacks.

Attendees can meet at the parking lot on Patterson Hill Road at the Kezar Corridor Lands.

Since June, the Groundhogs have used hand tools and hard work to clear trees, complete hundreds of feet of bench-cuts, and pull out monumental boulders, to create a winding trail that starts at Patterson Hill Road in the Kezar Corridor Lands reserve, and reaches an overlook of the Kezar River Valley at the top of Patterson Hill.

At just under a mile, this trail of switchbacks is a hike of moderate difficulty, offering a spot for viewing autumn foliage.
