Weekend Blitz: Final week of 8-man regular season

Edward Little (0-6) at Bangor (3-3)
Friday, 7 p.m.
The Rams have had a little resurgence this year. After finishing last in Class A last year, they are 3-3 and currently in playoff position. They also are coming off a week in which they allowed 480 yards passing and were outgained 656 yards to 287. Can the Eddies take advantage of that?

Greely (3-3) at Gray-New Gloucester (1-5)
Friday, 7 p.m.
Well, shoot, it’s already the final week of the regular season for 8-man. The Patriots are coming off their first win, while the Rangers are coming off a 12-8 upset of defending champ and previously unbeaten Yarmouth.

Boothbay/Wiscasset (3-3) at Dirigo (5-1)
Friday, 7 p.m.
A victory in this game gives the Cougars five wins in a row and wraps up second place in 8-man Small South. They’re doing it with several underclassmen playing key roles.

Mt. Blue (0-6) at Lewiston (2-4)
Friday, 7 p.m.
Both squads undoubtedly entered the season hoping for better results. The Blue Devils are looking to end a two-game skid and get back in the Class A postseason race. The Cougars are looking for their first victory.

Lisbon (2-4) at Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale/Kents Hill (3-3)
Friday, 7 p.m.
It’s difficult to know exactly what these two teams are. The Ramblers have won two straight after stumbling in Weeks 3 and 4. The case for the Greyhounds is they’ve played a tough schedule that includes some Class C muscle.

Waterville (2-4) at Mountain Valley (2-4)
Friday, 7 p.m.
The Falcons are coming off their first blowout loss; other than that, they have played fairly close with the best of 8-man Large. The Purple Panthers have lost four straight.

Windham (4-2) at Oxford Hills (4-2)
Friday, 7 p.m.
The Vikings might be the best team in the state at playing with a two-touchdown deficit, having had to rally from that hole three weeks in a row. Last week they came all the way back to top Bonny Eagle. The Eagles have had a great season, except against the Class A heavies.

Poland (4-2) at Fryeburg (5-1)
Friday, 7 p.m.
The Knights look to return to their winning ways after consecutive setbacks. The Raiders, though, have won five in a row — by 20 points or more — since losing to Leavitt in Week 1.

Winslow (3-3) at Oak Hill/St. Dom’s (3-3)
Saturday, 12:30 p.m.
In the span of three weeks, the Raiders went from a young, winless team to a D South contender. Second place is well within their reach.

Spruce Mountain (0-6) at Camden Hills (6-0)
Saturday, 1:00 p.m.
The Windjammers are the final unbeaten 8-man Large team without many blowouts — they manage to be a little better than each opponent. Of interest to the Phoenix is that when Camden faced 0-4 Gray-NG two weeks ago, the ‘Jammers needed overtime to win.

Leavitt (6-0) at Thornton (4-2)
Saturday, 1:30 p.m.
The Hornets’ four-game gauntlet through larger classes concludes with a tough one — in Saco, against the streaking Class A Golden Trojans. But Class C Leavitt has aced every test and earned extra credit so far this year. If it wins this game, it should be able to borrow the adjective in Thornton’s nickname and become the Golden Hornets.

Maranacook (4-2) at Telstar (2-4)
Saturday, 1:30 p.m.
The Rebels would earn some nice Crabtree points from this, probably enough to earn a higher seed than sixth in the upcoming playoffs. The Black Bears last week became the first team to score on Old Orchard Beach this season.
