These three suspects were arrested on drug and other charges in Lewiston on Friday. Lewiston Police Department

LEWISTON — Police arrested three men over a span of 10 hours Friday in a wild morning that involved two foot chases, a car wreck and an array of confiscated drugs.

Investigators said more than 300 grams of crack cocaine, pills, suboxone and methamphetamine was seized along with $8,600 in cash and a stolen handgun.

The drama began about 1:45 a.m. when police stopped a vehicle they said was speeding near Main and Middle streets. The stop, police said, led them to the discovery of drugs inside the vehicle.

As the officers were investigating, police said, suspect Luis Quinones, 35, of Brooklyn, attempted to run away on foot. Police said Quinones was captured almost immediately and arrested on charges of aggravated drug trafficking, failure to submit to arrest and falsifying evidence.

The driver of the vehicle, Donald Perry, 45, of Skowhegan, was arrested on a charge of unlawful drug possession. Both men were taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.

Later in the morning, shortly before noon, police stopped a local man said to have been speeding in the area of Wood and Sabattus streets. Again, police said, the suspect attempted to flee, driving away in his vehicle toward Webster Street where he struck two other vehicles near the intersection of Webster and East Avenue.

Nobody was hurt in the crash. A brief foot chase ensued, but again, police captured the suspect a short time later. Arrested was 47-year-old Bryant Hutchins, of Lewiston, whom police said was in possession of suboxone strips, oxycodone pills, methamphetamine and more than 175 grams of crack. He was also carrying a stolen handgun, police said.

Hutchins was charged with aggravated drug trafficking, possession of a stolen firearm, refusal to stop for police, possession of a firearm by a felon, violating conditions of release, refusal to submit to arrest, unlawful possession of drugs and leaving the scene of an accident.

Hutchins was being held without bail at the Auburn jail. Bail for Perry was set at $200.

Quinones, who has prior drug convictions, was being held on $10,000 bash bail at the jail. He also has a criminal history that includes a body-dumping case in Brooklyn, New York.

In 2017, he was sentenced to between five and 10 years in prison for his role in a body that was found in a trash can in a remote area along Interstate 83 in Springfield Township on Aug. 12, 2016.

According to court accounts, Quinones was convicted of helping his friend, a drug dealer, dispose of the body of a man who had been killed in a robbery gone bad. In that case, Quinones was convicted of abuse of a corpse, carrying a firearm without a license, conspiracy to commit abuse of a corpse, heroin possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

It was not immediately clear when Quinones had been released from prison.
