Sharon J. Robinson
PORTLAND – Sharon J. Robinson, 72, of Lisbon, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Oct. 5, 2023, after quietly managing congestive heart failure. Born Jan. 5, 1951, in Lewiston, to William and Freda Stevens of West Paris, she graduated from Oxford Hills High School and then Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute earning her LPN in 1970.
Despite being classmates, graduating in 1969, life took Sharon and Randy in two different directions. Fate brought them back together in late 1982. Being bold, she asked him if he wanted to come to her house for dinner. He accepted of course; she was too beautiful and smart to pass up the chance to get to know her better. They happily celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past July.
She raised two daughters, modeling self-reliance, and a strong work ethic. More importantly, her daughters were her best friends. Last year, she and her daughters spent a weekend at the Biltmore, taking in the grandeur of the estate, and drinking wine. Lots of wine.
As a nurse, she spent much of her professional life caring for so many in the Oxford Hills community. Some might say they would visit the practice to see her and not necessarily the doctor. She was a lifelong learner. More than a decade into her nursing career, she understood the benefits of complementary care and went back to school to become a licensed massage therapist, gaining experience in energy work including Reiki. Spending a few years in Myrtle Beach, she worked as a nurse in a dermatology office, learning even more about a different area of healthcare. She ended her career at The Lamp Memory Care Center in Lisbon in 2016, being a mentor to many.
Retirement did not slow her down. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s sporting events, traveling across the country with her husband, long walks listening to her playlist with artists like ABBA, CCR and Janice Joplin. She loved being in the water, especially the water aerobics class she participated in at the Lewiston Auburn YMCA. She was excited to learn how to play the pickleball game, even convincing her husband to play with her.
Sharon felt most at peace by the sea. Her husband brought her to Florida the last few winters so that she could be near the salt water. She simply loved the salt air, which healed her on many occasions. Her most favorite place on earth was Pemaquid Point.
Sharon is predeceased by her parents, William and Freda Stevens and brother Anthony Stevens.
She leaves to mourn, her loving husband Randy, daughters Heather (Allen) Ward and Jessica (Steve) Szotkowski, son Cory (Phaedra) Robinson, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, brothers Danny, Randy (Marie), James (Sukie), William Jr. (Shelly), Gregory (Kandi), and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 13, from 6-8 p.m., and celebration of her life to be held on Saturday, October 14, at 11 a.m. Both will be held at Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, South Paris.
The family wishes to thank the healthcare professionals at Central Maine Medical Center and Maine Medical Center. A sense of full circle for her, as she cared for so many in her 46-year career, to then be cared for in the most compassionate manner at the end of her life.
While she loved gardening, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association – Maine Office, 51 US Route One,
Suite M,
Scarborough ME 04074.
