JAY — Olivia Mastine and Miley Fournier each tallied a goal and an assist as Spruce Mountain edged Winthrop 3-2 in an MVC field hockey game Monday.
Fournier assisted on Mastine’s first-quarter goal, and Mastine later had the helper on Aubrey Kachnovich’s third-quarter tally. Fournier scored the game-clinching goal for the Phoenix (13-1) later in the third.
Madeline Wagner assisted on Piper Clark’s and Kylee Mansir’s goals for the Ramblers (11-3).
Winthrop goalie Brynn Stubbert made 12 saves, and Mallory Clark stopped seven shots for Spruce Mountain.
LEAVITT 2, NOKOMIS 1: Ainsley Berry and Katie Sirois scored the goals for the Hornets (11-3) in a win over the Warriors (11-2-1) in a key KVAC regular-season finale in Turner.
Berry opened the scoring midway through the first quarter. That 1-0 score stuck until the fourth, when both teams found the back of the cage. Katie Sirois scored Leavitt’s second goal when she tipped in a hit from Addie Twitchell.
Madeleine Roundy put Nokomis on the board in the final frame.
Emily Poland made six saves in the win for the Hornets, while Eliya Drummond tallied nine for the Warriors.
MOUNTAIN VALLEY 3, TELSTAR 0: Kaylani Sinclair scored two goals to pace the Falcons (5-8) past the Rebels (1-13) in Bethel.
Sinclair scored the lone goal of the first quarter off an assist from Melina Byam. Ella Young made it 2-0 in the second quarter and Sinclair scored from Mallorie Bourret later in the period.
Brooke Brown got the start in net for Mountain Valley and made two saves before Emma Williamson took over and added four more to secure the shutout. Lindy Stephenson stopped 20 shots for Telstar.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/NYA 3, GREELY 2, OT: Greta Tod, Olivia Knudson and Emma Bowden each scored a goal as the Patriots (6-5-2) topped the Rangers (7-7) in overtime in Cumberland.
Maya Tracey scored both goals for Greely.
HALL-DALE 2, DIRIGO 2: Faith McDougal’s late fourth-quarter goal knotted up the MVC matchup between the Bulldogs (7-5-1) and the Cougars (10-2-1) in Dixfield.
Tori Tibbetts opened the scoring for Hall-Dale early in the second quarter, and Alyssa Ellis scored from Emily Woods to tie the game for Dirigo later in the period. Grace Averill scored off a Libbie Errington assist to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead in the third.
Jade Graham kept the Bulldogs in the game with 27 saves, while Keira Kelley made three for Dirigo.
GIRLS SOCCER
BUCKFIELD 2, RICHMOND 1, 2OT: Brittany Carrier and Chloee Bennett each found the back of the net as the Bucks (9-5) outlasted the Bobcats (7-5) in double overtime in Richmond.
Ella Briand scored in the second half for Richmond after the teams went into halftime scoreless.
Kianna Finnegan made 10 saves for Buckfield and Autumn Lane made nine for Richmond.
MARANACOOK 6, MT. ABRAM 0: Natalie Mohlar factored into each of the last five goals as the Black Bears (13-0-1) capped an unbeaten regular season with a shutout win over the Roadrunners (5-8-1) in Salem Township.
Celia Bergdahl opened the scoring with under 10 minutes to play in the first half, which opened the floodgates for Maranacook. Mohlar scored from Phoebe Bell and then she assisted on Alice Ferran’s goal 70 seconds later to send the Black Bears into halftime up 3-0.
Mohlar, Ferran and Bell each scored within the first six-plus minutes of the second half, with Mohlar assisting the latter two goals.
Jany Pepin made 16 saves for Mt. Abram, while Devyn Eliasen stopped all three shots she faced for the shutout.
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 1, OAK HILL 0: Natasha McDonald scored the lone goal in the second half as the Phoenix (1-12) downed the Raiders (1-12) in Jay.
Ashley Nelson assisted on McDonald’s goal.
Tyoaka Hodgkin made six saves for Spruce Mountain and Mackenzie Vattaso made one for Oak Hill.
BOYS SOCCER
RICHMOND 5, BUCKFIELD 1: Wyatt Cassidy and Ben Fournier each scored twice in the Bobcats’ (13-1) win over the Bucks (12-2) in Richmond.
Kenny Mecham added a goal and an assist and Zaden and Zander Steele also contributed to the assist party.
Justin Lucas scored in the second half for Buckfield.
Cayden Durgin turned away 12 shots for the Bucks, and David Edwards made seven saves for the Bobcats.
MT. ABRAM 5, MARANACOOK 0: Morgan Thibodeau and Payton Mitchell each tallied two goals and an assist to help the Roadrunners (14-0) complete an undefeated regular season with a road win over the Black Bears (0-14) in Readfield.
Brennan Mitchell also scored for Mt. Abram, and Bear Rollins, Sam Cockerham and Chase Ross each provided an assist.
Sam St. Germain made 15 saves for Maranacook. Logan Dube and Trey Reed shared goalkeeping duties for the Roadrunners, who didn’t face a shot on goal.
MEN’S SOCCER
UMF’S LEACH HONORED: University of Maine at Farmington goalie Jackson Leach was named the North Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Leach made four saves to secure the shutout in the Beavers’ 1-0 victory over Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday in his lone game of the week.
JUNIOR HOCKEY
NORDIQUES’ ROMEO NAMED TOP STAR: The North American Hockey League announced its Divisional Stars of the Week on Monday, and Maine Nordiques forward received the accolade for the East Division.
Romeo recorded nine points (five goals, four assists) across the Nordiques’ three games over the weekend, with Maine going 2-1 in those games. He scored two goals each Friday and Sunday, and tallied the overtime winner Saturday.
Maine forward Charles Tardif was an Honorable Mention for East Division Star of the Week after scoring three goals during the weekend.
