Hilde Cracks the Case: Fire! Fire!
By Hilde and Matthew Lysiak
Illustrated by Joanne Lew-Vriethoff
There is a new kid on the block in libraries and bookstores for early chapter book readers. Nine-year-old Hilde Lysiak is a serious newspaper reporter roaming her neighborhood to investigate strange things that are happening.
She uses her observational and interviewing skills to discover who, what, when, where, why, and how. When she has all the correct facts, Hilde writes an article for her self-published newspaper, The Orange Street News.
In this quick-paced, black and white illustrated, short chapter book, Hilde, bicycling one day with her older sister, Izzie, hears people screaming, “FIRE! FIRE!”. Nina’s Antique Store is aflame and completely destroyed.
What happened? Did a burning candle start it? Maybe a boy she saw who had matches? Could it be the owl string lights Nina decorated the outside of her store with? Or….something else?
Hilde uses her detective skills to find the correct answers and writes an article to be published in The Orange Street News.
If you are interested in being an investigator, a reporter, writing an article, or publishing your own newspaper, this may be the perfect book for you to read. If not, it is still a fun read.
Enjoy!
