The Edward Little at Lewiston football game scheduled for Friday night will be postponed due to Wednesday’s deadly shooting in Lewiston and the ongoing manhunt for suspect Robert Card.
Lewiston High School Athletic Director Jason Fuller shared a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday afternoon that said, “Due to the events over the past 24 hours, the decision has been made to postpone all athletic events for the next few days. As more information becomes available, we will make future arrangements for the playing of these games.
The Blue Devils were supposed to host the Red Eddies in the latest edition of the Battle of the Bridge football game at 7 p.m.
The Lewiston boys soccer team was slated to host either Edward Little or Mt. Ararat for a Class A North semifinal Saturday afternoon. Before that game can be played, the Red Eddies and the Eagles need to play overtime of their quarterfinal game, which was suspended at the end of regulation Wednesday when officials learned of the shootings in Lewiston.
The Sun Journal also learned Thursday evening that Dirigo’s 8-man Small South football semifinal matchup with Maranacook in Dixfield will not be played Friday night, as planned. There is a tentative plan in place to potentially play the game either Tuesday or next Friday.
Dirigo’s boys soccer and field hockey teams also have had their semifinal contests postponed to next week.
More, if not all, of Friday’s and Saturday’s games are expected to be postponed.
