Farmington Cooperative Extension Service has planned a series of STEM activities mainly for children 8 and older, to be held at Dr. Shaw Memorial Library, 344 Pond Road in Mount Vernon.
Younger children also are welcome to attend, with a parent in attendance.
The series is set for 4-5 p.m. Wednesdays at the library, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 1. It will continue through Wednesday, Dec. 6, with the exception of Wednesday, Nov. 22, the day before Thanksgiving.
Children can attend one or all of these free programs.
This program is called the “Power Protectors” series, wherein participants can play, learn and create new projects around the theme of renewable energy concepts, and will be encouraged to think about their own energy use, all while designing a top-secret “Power Protector Hideout” as they imagine themselves as superheroes, according to a news release from Alice Olson with the library.
Youth can think about ways that renewable energy can help create solutions to problems on “Energy Island,” where the Protectors live.
